Can I cuss?

Back in 2017, I visited Trinidad and Tobago. It was three years after losing my dad. Your girl was NOT doing well.
Most days I didn't know if I was coming or going. Going back home felt necessary. The truth is, I never intended to return to the U.S. I packed e'erything up and went home!
I stayed for four months.
One day I met a couple friends and they were like...'Yuh here to do a show?'
Show? Nope! A comedy show was not in the cards for me.
As the days went by, I kept meeting more and more people who seemed excited by the thought that I was home to do a show.
I shared this with my friend Paula.
'Oh, there's a place called Kaiso Blues on Woodford Street that might actually be a great venue'
Paula and I visited Kaiso Blues and well, the show was on.
Now I needed to finalize the cast and well, get myself some stage time.
Robin Foster, a Trinidad producer, was the host of a weekly show called Kixx and Kaiso, held at Kaiso Blues. I met up with him and asked him for some stage time.
'Come troo!'
I showed for my first show and asked Robin if it was okay to cuss on stage
Robin: do your thing
A few minutes later I hit the stage and during my set I say the word fuq!
I could feel the energy in the room shift!
I finish (struggle through) my set, without any profanity.
Since then I’ve done several shows back home and I’ve never used profanity.
I recall someone saying to me that by not cussing on stage ‘I was not being true to myself’
My response was I can cuss without cussing. Yuh dig?
After my last show in Trinidad (and Tobago, but really in Trinidad), a friend called me saying she sees my growth.
'There's a difference in you. A difference in your style and your confidence. I love all of it for you.'
Thanks Trish.
There is a difference in my style.
There has been a shift and a change. I feel it too and I love it for me as well.
